Short Review: Carnival Row Season 1 – Review

I recently finished watching Carnival Row Season 1, and I must say, it was a unique experience. The show is a mix of fantasy, mystery, and drama, set in a dark Victorian-style city where humans and magical creatures live together, but not peacefully. There’s a lot of tension, racism, and political issues shown in a creative way through this fantasy world.

The story mainly follows Rycroft Philostrate (played by Orlando Bloom), a human detective, and Vignette Stonemoss (played by Cara Delevingne), a fae (fairy) who has a deep past with him. Their love story is emotional and full of ups and downs, especially because of the world they live in. There's also a murder mystery going on, with someone killing magical creatures in the city, and Philo is trying to solve it.

What I really liked about the show is how deep the world-building is. The city, the different species, their histories — everything feels well-thought-out. The visuals are stunning too — dark, gothic, and magical at the same time. The acting is pretty good, especially by Orlando Bloom. The chemistry between the main characters also felt real.

However, the series can feel a bit slow at times, especially in the middle episodes. There are a lot of side plots and characters, which sometimes makes the story confusing. But things pick up in the last few episodes, and the ending leaves you wanting more.

Overall, Carnival Row Season 1 is worth watching if you like fantasy stories with deeper meanings, like politics, discrimination, and identity. It’s not a light watch, but it’s interesting and different from most shows out there. I’m curious to see what happens next.
