The show still looks amazing. The world of Carnival Row is full of fantasy and mystery — the streets, costumes, magical creatures — everything feels dark, beautiful, and detailed. If you liked the setting in Season 1, you’ll still enjoy the atmosphere in Season 2.
This time, the story is bigger, but also more complicated. There are too many things happening at once — war, rebellion, politics, relationships, secrets — and sometimes it feels a bit too much. Some characters get lost in all the chaos. It was hard to stay fully connected with the main story.
Rycroft Philo is still trying to do the right thing, but his character feels a bit confused and less strong than before. Vignette, who was such a powerful presence in Season 1, feels a little inconsistent this time — sometimes strong, sometimes not. Their love story doesn’t hit as hard as it did before.
One good thing is that the season gives a proper ending. It ties up most of the important plots and gives closure to the characters. Some parts are emotional and meaningful, especially towards the end. But the journey to reach that point feels rushed, like they were trying to finish everything quickly.
Overall, Carnival Row Season 2 is not as strong as Season 1. It still has great visuals, a rich world, and some interesting moments — but the storytelling is weaker, and it’s easy to get lost in all the side plots. If you enjoyed Season 1 and want to know how things end, it’s worth watching. Just don’t expect the same magic as before.
