After being thoroughly impressed by The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion back in 2018, expectations from its sequel were sky high. The first part gave South Korea one of its most confident and clever female leads with telekinetic powers, delivering a fresh take on the action-sci-fi genre.
In Part 2, the story shifts focus from Ja-yoon (the lead of Part 1) to a new mysterious girl — raised in isolation like an animal, yet armed with terrifying powers. She’s unaware of the outside world, and that innocence clashes with her brutal strength, creating some truly compelling moments.
The film introduces several new characters, each with their own supernatural abilities. But despite the fresh faces and high-octane action, the emotional core of the story — especially the bond between the two sisters — feels undercooked compared to the original.
While the action is stylized and visually engaging, The Witch Part 2 suffers from weak pacing. The biggest issue is that the movie leaves too much unexplained. Key plot points are either rushed or left vague, making it hard for viewers to fully engage with the story. You’ll find yourself waiting and waiting for answers that never really come.
The climax hints strongly at an upcoming Part 3, which may finally give the answers we’ve been craving. The ending is a bit underwhelming, but it lays the groundwork for a potentially strong continuation.
Final Verdict:
The Witch: Part 2 is ambitious in scale but lacks the emotional grip of Part 1. While the new characters are interesting and the action is slick, the film leans too heavily on setting up the next installment rather than delivering a complete, satisfying story.
Let’s hope that Part 3 brings back the powerful storytelling and sharp character work that made The Witch: Part 1 so memorable.
⭐ Rating: 3/5
Watch it for the action and buildup, but lower your expectations if you’re hoping for another tightly written sci-fi thriller.
