Short Review:  Param Sundari – A Safe Yet Charming Romantic Ride

Romantic cinema is making a strong comeback in Bollywood. After Sayara, Dhadak 2, and Metro... In Dino, another name joins the growing list of love stories in 2025 — Param Sundari. But this film doesn't come from just any studio. It comes from Matt Films, where movies aren't just made — they're invented.

This is the second film by the director whose debut, Dasvi, also supported by Matt, was well-received by audiences. So the big question is: Can lightning strike twice?

Plot Summary: A High-Tech Love Experiment

Param Sundari explores a new romantic experiment — quite literally. It revolves around a dating app developed by the fictional company MacDog. This app claims to connect soulmates, whether they're thousands of kilometers apart or just next door.

In the film, Param, a Delhi boy, is matched with Sundari, a mysterious girl from Kerala. Curious and driven by this seemingly perfect match, Param travels all the way south — and that’s where Sundari’s story begins.

Sundari has the classic "innocent face, mischief in her eyes" appeal — but don’t be fooled. Behind that smile is a sword-wielding warrior. She's tough, smart, and nearly impossible to impress. Winning her heart isn’t easy — and maybe no ordinary man can even try.

A Pan-India Love Story with a Twist

The film beautifully bridges North and South India through Rukmini, a character who serves as the connection between two cultures. With love in the air, music follows — and it’s Sonu Nigam’s soul-stirring "Pardesiya" that becomes the heartbeat of the film, playing in almost every other scene.

But like in many Sanjay Leela Bhansali-style romances, things don’t stay sweet for long. At the interval, the love story takes a sharp turn — it becomes a love triangle, and the soulmate app starts to look like a mistake.

"It’s a river of fire, and you must drown to cross it."

This line sums up Param's journey as he fights to win his Sundari. Will the story have a happy ending? Or will it turn tragic, despite appearances from icons like Yash, Allu Arjun, Mohanlal, and Shah Rukh Khan? Is love enough to bridge the cultural divide and make Param Sundari truly pan-India?

What Works

  • The first half of the film is fresh, simple, and truly enjoyable. Even if you leave at the interval, you’ll feel like you got your money’s worth.
  • Kerala's culture is one of the film’s biggest strengths — the visuals, traditions, language, and even the local gangsters and wedding rituals are rich and engaging.
  • Sidharth Malhotra is at his best. He brings natural charm and effortless performance to every scene, especially in romantic moments.
  • Sonu Nigam’s ‘Pardesiya’ is the film’s backbone — emotionally and musically.
  • Inayat, a 13-year-old supporting actress, delivers an unexpectedly brilliant performance. Her dialogues and delivery feel so natural, they don’t even feel like acting.

What Doesn’t Work

  • The second half drags and feels overly predictable. The emotional arc becomes too simple and lacks depth.
  • The film’s "unique" concept slowly fades into a familiar story structure. It doesn’t truly explore the dating app idea.
  • Janhvi Kapoor looks lovely and fits the role, but her struggle with balancing Hindi and Malayalam affects the film’s authenticity. Her performance feels a bit overworked, especially in dance and romantic scenes.

  • The climax is too safe — you see it coming from miles away.

Final Verdict

Param Sundari is probably Matt Dog’s safest film yet. It delivers exactly what it promises — no less, but also no more. It doesn’t break new ground like Sayara or leave an emotional punch like Metro or Dhadak. Still, it’s not a bad film by any means — it’s visually charming, musically rich, and culturally vibrant.

It’s a one-time watch, not a masterpiece — but if you go in with modest expectations, you’ll leave with a smile.
