Short Review: Kuberaa Movie Review (2025)

Verdict: Bold in ambition, brilliant in parts, but not without flaws.

Watching Kuberaa feels like being pulled into a world that’s both real and unsettling. Directed by Sekhar Kammula, this crime-drama dives deep into themes of money, morality, and power. What starts off as a slow-burning story of a mute beggar, played by Dhanush, gradually builds into something darker and more thought-provoking.

 Performances That Elevate

Let’s start with the biggest strength: Dhanush. His portrayal of Deva is raw, powerful, and deeply moving. Even without many lines, he expresses more with his eyes and body language than most actors do with pages of dialogue. It's easily one of his finest performances in years.

Nagarjuna adds a mature layer to the narrative, playing a morally grey character caught between duty and conscience. Rashmika Mandanna, though underused, brings heart and empathy to her role. And Jim Sarbh? He’s chilling, charming, and totally believable as the villain behind the scenes.

 What Works

  • The cinematography is top-tier — visually rich and atmospheric.

  • The background score complements the mood without overpowering the scenes.

  • The story raises real questions: What’s the cost of money? Is survival ever a crime? That moral depth keeps you thinking.

 What Doesn’t

The pacing is uneven. The first half takes time to find its footing, while the last 20 minutes feel a bit too rushed, like the filmmakers suddenly ran out of time. Some side characters deserved more development, and the climax, while emotional, leans on familiar tropes.

 Audience Takeaway

This isn’t your typical action-packed masala movie. It’s slower, darker, and more introspective. But if you enjoy movies that challenge your thinking and feature strong performances, Kuberaa is definitely worth a watch.

 Final Rating: ★★★★☆ (3.5/5)

Watch it for Dhanush. Stay for the message. Be patient with the pace.
