Short Review: Bhool Chook Maaf" Review – Time Loop Comedy with a Desi Twist

Finally, with a heartfelt “Bhool Chook Maaf,” Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s new film has hit the theatres. Titled Bhool Chook Maaf, this one comes from Maddock Films — and honestly, that alone had me excited. Personally, I’ve always been a fan of Maddock's unique style of filmmaking. Just look at their past films — they’ve consistently delivered something fresh and unexpected.

So yes, I’ve watched the movie, and here's my quick take.

As always, Maddock surprises us with offbeat content. This time, they’ve dived into the "time loop" genre — but with a fun, comedy-driven desi flavor. The plot revolves around Ranjan (played by Rajkummar Rao), who is all set to marry Titli (Wamiqa Gabbi). But here’s the twist: even after the wedding is fixed, Ranjan keeps reliving the haldi ceremony day, again and again. What kind of crazy loop this is — you’ll have to watch the film to fully get it.

Now here’s the cool part — the film’s runtime is barely two hours, and it flies by. The screenplay is tight, and there’s hardly any drag. Honestly, the songs didn’t add much — they could’ve been skipped — except the first one, which cleverly uses animation to show the backstory before the actual story starts. So don’t miss that!

The first half might feel a bit slow, like it’s just setting things up and not moving ahead. But trust me, once the second half kicks in, that’s where the real "Bhool Chook Maaf" essence begins. The comedy starts hitting stronger, and the emotional value kicks in hard, especially towards the end.

Now let’s talk performances.

Sanjay Mishra, in a cameo role, absolutely steals the show. His screen time may be short, but his impact is huge. Of course, Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s chemistry — being showcased for the first time on screen — works wonderfully. Both have delivered solid performances.

And yes — you’ll spot our very own Pradhan Ji from Panchayat, along with a great set of supporting actors. What I really loved is how everyone gets fair screen time, not just the leads. Maddock knows how to use its full cast — just like they did with Stree, where even the side characters like Jana or Pankaj Tripathi’s role became iconic.

The time loop concept, which is usually tied to sci-fi, has been given a desi twist here. It’s tailored beautifully for the Indian audience, and that’s what makes it even more relatable.

The movie is packed with comedy, emotions, clean entertainment, and zero vulgarity — making it a perfect family entertainer. If you're hunting for flaws, you might find a few, but they don't really hurt the experience. The way the story moves and ends — it all balances out in the end.

Final Verdict:
It’s a light-hearted comedy with a meaningful message, ideal for a relaxed family watch.

My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.
